On January 7 2010, a large number of Reliance outlets were attacked in Andra Pradesh. The reason being that a Telugu News channel aired a news report that alleged Ambani brothers (Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani) in a high level conspiracy behind Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s(YSR) death in a chopper crash on September 2 2008.
Exiled Magazine Report on YSR Conspiracy Ambani
The report was purely based on a Russian web magazine 'The Exiled', which alleged that YSR was the victim of high level conspiracy related to Krishna-Godavari Gas Basin issue which caused a dispute between Reddy and Ambani. Reliance Industries Limited owned by Mukesh Ambani is operating these gasfields off the Kakinada coast. According to the Telugu TV Reports and Exiled Magazine Sources, Mukesh Ambani was behind the conspiracy in the Chopper crash that led to the death of YSR.
YSR Fans Protests and Attack Reliance
The report was picked up by other television channels and supporters of YSR went enraged and attacked on Reliance Retail outlets late on Thursday evening. They attacked retail outlets and malls, cellphone towers and petrol stations operated by the Reliance groups in Guntur, Anantapur and Kurnool districts and Hyderabad city regions. Congress activists called for a bandh in Kadapa and Anantapur districts as well as in several towns in other districts. The government has already asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the circumstances related to the death of Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy.
